Wet season and midday alternatives

Tropical rain arrives hard and often leaves within the hour, so the trick is having somewhere to be while it passes. The museum, the tunnels, Deckchair Cinema under cover, an air-conditioned long lunch in the CBD, or the Botanic Gardens' shadehouses all work.

Storm watching is a genuine local pastime. From late in the Build-Up through tropical summer, the light show over the Timor Sea from a balcony or the Nightcliff foreshore beats most ticketed attractions.

Is there enough to do for three days?

Comfortably. Two days for the city, markets, museums and harbour, plus one full day for Litchfield or a wetland cruise.

What is worth booking ahead?

Sunset cruises, jumping crocodile tours, scenic flights and Tiwi Islands day tours, particularly through the Dry season school holidays.
