World Heritage · 3 hours from Darwin
Kakadu National Park
Nearly twenty thousand square kilometres of escarpment, floodplain and stone country, listed for both natural and cultural value, and looked after by its Traditional Owners for tens of thousands of years.
Scale changes the plan
Kakadu is roughly half the size of Switzerland. Sites sit hours apart, and the drive between them is part of the experience rather than dead time. Two nights is the realistic minimum, three is better, and a day tour from Darwin will only show you a sliver.
The park is jointly managed with its Traditional Owners, whose seasonal knowledge shapes access, interpretation and which places are open to visitors. Some areas are restricted. That is not a limitation on your trip. It is the reason the place is intact.
